Why is water filtration so important?

Water filtration protects your investment in a home.

Most of the water filtration benefits for a home owner come from the softening of hard water. Water described as "hard" is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium.

  • Hard water causes mineral buildup on appliances that use water (clothes washer, hot water heater, dishwasher, refrigerator/ice maker). This buildup impedes their performance and eventually causes premature breakdown.
  • Hard water mineral buildup clogs and corrodes pipes and fixtures. The resulting plumbing problems require expensive repairs or replacement.
  • In the laundry, hard water leaves soap curd and detergent deposits on fabrics. This dulls colors and gives a grey or yellow appearance to white fabrics. As hard water soap curd clings to fabric fibers, threads become brittle thus shortening the life of the material.
  • Hard water impedes the sudsing and lathering action of soap and synthetic detergents. Therefore you use more soap/shampoo/detergent to get enough cleansing action. Hard water also leaves water spots and streaks on your glassware and dishes and causes that unsightly soap scum "ring" in your bathtub.
  • Water filtration protects your home.
  • Softening the water in your home solves all of these problems. It extends the life and efficiency of your appliances. It removes the danger and expense of mineral clogged and corroded pipes, faucets and fixtures. It will help your clothes come out cleaner, free from mineral deposit damage, and simply look better longer. Softening the water in your home makes it easier to wash clothes, dishes, and your own skin and hair.

Water Filtration protects the health of your family.

Filtered water protects your family's health.
  • Not only could your water taste and smell unpleasant, it is also harmful to your family's health. In an analysis of more than 22 million tap water quality tests, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that water suppliers across the U.S. detected 260 contaminants in water served to the public. More than half of these detected chemicals are unregulated and therefore not removed from the water supply sent to every home.
  • Chlorine introduced into the water supply reacts with other naturally-occurring elements to form toxins called trihalomethanes (THMs). THMs have been linked to a wide range of human health maladies ranging from asthma and eczema to bladder cancer and heart disease. According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, "cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine."
  • Sediment, rust, chlorine, iron, lead, and pesticides are only a few of the harmful impurities in your water. Toxins from tap water make their way into our bodies when we bathe and shower, through the water we cook with and even when we brush our teeth.

Filtering the municipal water supply before it comes out of your tap is the best way to ensure your safety and gain the health benefit that pure water provides.

Drinking filtered water from home can rescue our planet

Plastic bottles add to the pollution of earth.

It is estimated that the U.S. uses 4% of it's energy in the production of plastics. But most of the plastic products will be used once then discarded to remain in the environment, one way or another, for decades.

Americans buy an estimated 28 billion plastic water bottles every year, use them once then discard them. Only 2 out of 10 will be properly recycled. The remaining 8 out of 10 will end up in a landfill or incinerated with trash.

There are significant air pollution concerns when plastic bottles are incinerated with regular trash. Anyone who has seen a plastic bottle melt knows of the toxic smoke and fumes it can create. These fumes not only pose health risks, they create “green house gases” that deplete the ozone layer.

Drinking filtered water from home reduces pollution. We could all stop contributing to this wasteful, polluting (and expensive) cycle by getting our pure, filtered water from home and filling a reusable container. We'll even give you a great stainless steel one to get you started.
